Last year, Nancy Everdyke mentioned that we have very few Silent Auction items for the ladies that attend the car show.  She suggested that we create gift baskets from donations provided by our club members.  In 2024, we created an Italian Dinner Basket with pasta, sauce, a bottle of wine (maybe you would like to donate a wine hostess gift that wasn’t your favorite), etc. and a Fancy Spa Basket including scented soaps, lotions, a fancy scrub, a pretty candle, etc. and a Kitchen Basket with cool gadgets, gourmet tools, items to delight amateur chefs.

As it turns out, that was a brilliant suggestion!  Although the rain caused us to end the car show early, we were still able to make $1000 on the baskets.  One lady bought three baskets to use at an event she was planning to attend!  Dianne Vaughn made two of the most beautiful lap quilts.

Would you like to help with this project for our 20th Annual Charity Car Show?  If so, bring a donation to our Cruise-In at the Full Moon BBQ on April 11 or the Cruise-In on May 9 that you think would contribute to a basket.  We are looking at different themes (would you like to suggest a theme?).  We talked about an Alabama and/or Auburn Basket, another Spa basket, a family movie night basket, and/or a travel basket.

Some of us have been hard at work doing our spring cleaning.  Here’s a great idea from Renee Binkley.  (don’t we have some smart ladies in the club?)  Share your “white elephants” with the club to help create baskets.

What is a “white elephant” you might ask?  A “white elephant” is something you have around the house that you DON’T want – an old birthday present that you never wanted or used; a prize from another activity that wasn’t your first choice; something you thought you were going to love but didn’t; or something that is too nice to toss out but not anything you have space for anymore.  The white elephant that you donate may be included in the baskets or create a new theme for a basket or become a Silent Auction item.

The baskets will definitely enhance the appeal of our Silent Auction for the ladies that attend our car show and create a novel way to increase our bottom line for the Car Show.

Nancy and any volunteers interested in building the baskets will meet at a later date close to the car show to assemble the baskets.
